Welcome, Baby Rowan!

One week ago today, Jeff's sister Susie and her husband Andy welcomed their first child, Rowan.

Rowan weighed in at 8 lbs., 10 oz, and was 21 inches long.

Look at those sweet baby cheeks! I wish I was there to snuggle him up and smell his little head.

Susie says he's "size tiny," but we had to laugh. When Isaac was two months old, he weighed exactly 8 lbs. 10 oz. I'm sure Rowan seems tiny, but he's the perfect-sized baby and, like all babies, he'll grow up way too fast.

Congratulations Susie and Andy. This will be the greatest adventure of your lives.

Welcome to the family Rowan. We're so glad you're here.

Christmas Blessings

It's early Christmas morning and Jeff and I just finished wrapping the last of the gifts between feeding babies. It's been a challenge to get everything together this holiday season!

Amelia, Isaac, Sam and Alex ~ Christmas 2008

We took Amelia to mass this evening while Grandma D. had some bonding time with the boys. As we listened to the story of Mary and Joseph and the birth of our Savior, I thought, "What a wonderful time of year to have a baby in the house." (Or in our case, three!) A baby is a great reminder of God's gift to the world -- his Son, who arrived as a helpless infant, born poor and laid in the manger.

Today will be full of presents and laughter and squeals of delight -- probably in just a few short hours. But we will also take time to remember the birth of Jesus, who is Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father Forever, Prince of Peace.

Christmas blessings to you all,

Christy

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

Christy and Jeff (and Amelia) are in trouble...three strawberry-blond-headed boys were welcomed into this world around 3:30 this afternoon!

As of an hour ago, no names were picked out yet, but here's what Jeff shared with me:

Weights:
  • 5 lbs., 3 oz.
  • 5 lbs., 4 oz.
  • 6 lbs. 1 oz.
That's 16 1/2 pounds worth of babies!

Jeff didn't recall lengths or eye color, if you're curious, but here's what's important: One baby was already out with Christy, another was in the NICU for observation but doing well, and the third is coping with premature breathing issues. Mom is doing well but wasn't out of recovery yet. She'll be up for calls tomorrow.

Congratulations Jeff and Christy!!!

Clare & Isabel

I wanted to title this: "Welcome to the Family, Babies," but that would be too mean! Clare and Isabel are twin baby girls that Jeff's sister and her husband are adopting. They adopted another beautiful little girl 5 years ago, so now they are a family of 5. Clare and Isabel were born Sept. 1 and I've been dying to post about them, but needed to wait until things were official with the adoption. Now that they are, welcome to the family, Clare and Isabel!

The girls were born about a month early, and Clare came home the other day, but Isabel needs a few more days in the NICU. They both weigh more than 4 1/2 pounds now and are doing very well.

The proud new parents, along with the rest of us, found out that they were chosen to adopt these little blessings the second week of August. So Jeff's parents are going from having 2 grandchildren to having 7 in a matter of about a month. And two sets of multiples! How wild is that? I can't wait to get all of the little ones together. We'll never have enough arms to hold them all!

Our prayers will forever be with the brave birth mom who chose to give up her babies. It is a gift beyond compare.
