Growing Boys

We weighed the boys tonight, and they are already growing like weeds! At almost three weeks old, combined they tip the scales at almost 20 lbs.

Sam - 6 lb. 6 oz.
Isaac - 5 lb. 15 oz.
Alex - 7 lb. 7 oz.

Clearly eating every three hours agrees with these boys!

I'm still trying to teach them how to nurse. Isaac's getting the hang of things, and Sam doesn't do too badly, but Alex is pretty lazy about it. I may never get him to be much of a nurser as long as there's a bottle in the picture. And logistically, there has to be some bottle feeding involved. There just are not enough hours in the day or enough of Mom to go around!

Love to see that weight gain!! Keep growing boys!! Sounds like Alex is all about the easy life. Well, let him take advantage for now:) Life is gonna get a lot tougher! Glad Isaac and Samuel are picking it up! I am still in awe! Congrats! Love, thoughts and prayers! You are all doing great!!! Way to go!!

One of my babies (Abby) wasn't ever able to nurse - but she also refused to ever take formula. I pumped for her full time. My other two babies nursed exclusively for the first four months until I went back to work, then they got a bottle while I was at work. At five months they started getting supplemented with some formula during the day, but Abby still wouldn't have anything to do with formula - so she always got first dibs on breastmilk.

Some mothers of triplets have an all-or-nothing attitude about nursing, as in, if one won't nurse, they won't nurse any of them. I'm not sure I understand this attitude, because the fact is that not everything will be equal for them in life just because they're triplets. They are three individuals, even though they share a birthday. Abby prefers a bottle, so she gets a bottle. Abby wouldn't take formula, but Sam and Ellie would. So they didn't always get the same thing, but they're all healthy, happy 13 month olds now, so I'm not complaining.

Great weights on those babies - you're doing great, mama!

I loved nursing sweet Amelia, and even though she took a bottle at daycare (always reluctantly)she had nothing but breast milk until she was 10 months old. I nursed her to 14 months, when she gradually lost interest.

I'll nurse any of these guys who will choose to join me! It's too early to give up on any of them for being slow to learn. It does take time, and out of necessity, we do have to bottle feed, so that adds to the learning curve. But today, both Isaac and Sam did a decent job of nursing at a feeding, and Alex latched on several times, but we were fighting the tongue glued to the top of the mouth. Still, it's progress!

At the end of the day, anything I can provide for them is good, so we'll keep working on it. (And building a very close relationship with the breast pump!)
